Legalities
In order to
marry in Cyprus you must satisfy a number of legal requirements. The process is
not too daunting and Aphrodite Island Bride can make many of the necessary arrangements
for you in order to make the process as easy as possible.
Couples must
arrive in Cyprus at least 4 days before the wedding. On arrival, it is
necessary for the couple to attend a short appointment with the Marriage Officer
to confirm that all the legal requirements have been complied with. Aphrodite
Island Bride will arrange this appointment for you and accompany you, if you require it.
You will
also need to provide the following documents:
- Each to have valid 10-year passports, not due to expire within six months,
plus photocopies of all pages relating to the personal information contained
therein.
- Each have your own Single Status Statutory Declaration confirming that you are
free to get married. This must include your name, address, nationality,
religion, passport number and occupation; state whether single, divorced or
widowed; that you intend to marry in Cyprus and be signed and stamped by a UK
solicitor, stating ‘solicitor’ on the document.
- Scottish nationals should obtain a Certificate of No Impediment from the local
registry office in place of the Declaration.
- Irish
nationals must apply to the Irish Embassy for a Freedom to Marry certificate,
which can take up to two months to obtain - this certificate is required
before any wedding can take place.
- Birth certificates or adoption certificates, if adopted.
- If divorced, a copy of the decree absolute or if a previous marriage was
annulled, a copy of the annulment.
- If widowed, a copy of the death certificate .
- If under 18, proof of parental consent, stamped and signed by a solicitor.
- Proof of name change by Deed Poll, stamped and signed by a solicitor.
- The fee of approximately £200GBP
If
you are opting for a church service the following also applies:
- Catholic weddings
~ both must be baptised into Christian faith. A civil ceremony must also take
place prior to a Catholic church wedding ~ this can be on the same day.
- Anglican weddings
~ at least one of the two must be baptised or christened into Christian faith.
A marriage licence is required from the Town Hall prior to the wedding taking place.
- A meeting with the
priest who will conduct the service is normally expected prior to the wedding.
- An additional fee of £300GBP (in addition to
the £200GBP civil licence fee)
